Project Notes: LSM Phase Quilt

This quilt was made by Erin Grogan. We worked together to feature a “Space” theme in the quilting. We used a variegated thread in very dark shades of navy, greens, greys and a bit of metallics to give it a deep-space twinkle in the stitching. The thread blends into the black background on the quilt top, but really stands out on the negative space of the moon-shapes within the quilt top design. This is a really interesting quilt up close, as the shifting colors in the thread really expresses the ethereal glow of deep space imagery. The scale of the design was sized to compliment the size of the moons, and to offer maximum drape for a cuddly, floppy finished quilt. This is a quilt made for a sweet little boy, and it reflects a focus on his comfort, and attention to his tastes.
